Prednisone Withdrawals

Yesterday was the worst day yet.

Prednisone has been associated with more serious problems such as psychotic disorders, delusions, and dementia.

Prednisone Withdrawals

Prednisone affects areas of the brain that manage the regulation of different neurotransmitters, including serotonin and dopamine — the “feel-good” hormones. The adrenal glands make cortisol, a substance similar to prednisone and, they need to be given the opportunity to take over production again. If not, there can be side effects.

Although the supplements have seemed to help in the long run yesterday was bad. My blood work was great this week and I have reduced from 25mg to 20mg Prednisone and it hit me hard.

You feel so bad you can't even begin to think of ways to feel better much less want to.

Body pain. My entire body hurt all day and the worst part was that I had massive spasms in my right foot that hurt all the way up to my knee. Nothing seemed to help and my foot was spastic for a long time. Kevin googled it and said I should take Magnesium and get the heating pad. I took a dose of liquid Magnesium and wrapped a heating pad around my leg and foot for a while and that eased it up a bit.

Aggression/mood swings. Kevin said he was going to throw my Oregano plant away because it didn't look good and he thought it was dying. I lit into him and made it very clear that it was my plant and if he did there would be major repercussions. Anyone who knows me knows that I am mild mannered and avoid conflict. I was so mad I had to get away from him and went inside the house and had a frustrated big cry, then took a shower. I went back out later and gave the plant some love, added more soil and it is looking good now.

I slept for about 6 hours last night! I feel better this morning and hopefully I will only have 1 bad day during withdrawals and if so that is a major accomplishment. I had a very rare 2 glasses of wine with dinner, maybe that helped with the sleep and pain ;)
