I have no choice but to coexist with this unyielding companion yet I still yearn for life—real life. I cannot let time disappear while I navigate my new reality. Like the earth quietly cycling through its endless seasons and the moon shifting through phases of change. I too must discover my own flow of renewal.
Welcome To My Storm
I’m writing this from inside the storm, not from the other side. This isn’t a story about everything working out perfectly, or trying hard enough to find your way back to the way your life was before. This isn’t about “thinking positive” or “just trying harder.” It isn’t about fixing anything. It is about you finding your own way to thrive in the storm,
I am here because I know what it is like when everything feels impossible. There have been times in my life when survival mode took over so much that I barely recognized myself. I was grouchy, distant, and did not want to be around anyone. Everything felt like too much, even the smallest things. At my worst, I could not even remember the things I’ve been through before, the challenges I’ve overcome, or the things I’ve been successful at. Everything felt impossible, and I felt impossible too.
Positive thinking and affirmations did not mean much to me. It was hard to hear words like growth mindset, resilience, self‑talk, or staying positive. They felt far away, empty, sometimes even ridiculous, when I was already so tired and overwhelmed. I felt isolated, discouraged, and like I could not handle normal life, much less anything hard. It was not just sadness or stress. It was a heavy kind of exhaustion that affected my relationships, my peace, and my ability to see any way forward.
That is where this book started. I needed something to help me when I couldn’t find my way and there was nothing else I could find that felt real or useful. So I began creating my own way forward. That did not make everything easy, but it gave me somewhere to begin. I had to find smaller ways forward and had to be honest about where I was. I had to stop trying to force myself into something I was not ready for and work from there.
There will be parts of this book that feel technical, because I want to explain what is happening and why it feels so hard to move forward. I want to talk about how we can move from this place of hopelessness to making a plan to get through it, and then claim back a meaningful life.
This book is not about forcing yourself into confidence, gratitude, or motivation before you are ready. It is not about reparenting yourself or doing all the “inner work”. It is about slowing down, noticing where you are, and building a path forward one tiny step at a time that fits the life you are actually living.
My hope is that these pages will help you understand what is happening inside you and show you that there is still a way forward even if everything feels too heavy and hope feels far away. This book is about helping you find your own way to thrive in the storm.
