Quieting The Storm- Path To Healing
“Of all the roads she traveled, the journey back to herself was the most magnificent.”- SD
Some days I wake up steady. Other days, I’m just tired — tired of pretending everything’s fine. I still smile most of the time, but sometimes it’s only a way to hold myself together. There are quiet battles I carry inside, ones no one else can see.
I’ve been learning to slow down, to stop demanding so much from myself. Healing isn’t something that happens quickly, it’s a long, uneven path. But I’m noticing small signs of life again. Songs that calm me. The color of the sky right before sunset. The peace of sitting still long enough to feel my own breath.
I miss the version of me who felt lighter, who didn’t carry so much. I know she’s still here, just quiet waiting for me to stop moving long enough to listen. Even when I don’t feel like I’m glowing anymore, I try to carry what little light I have left. People see the brightness I share, but they don’t always see the weariness behind it and that’s okay. It just means my heart still knows how to give, even when it’s tired.
I have learned it is okay to grieve who I was before. That grief is not failure it is the love for the life and self that shaped you. Who you were before deserves to be honored so that who you are now can rise wiser and gentler from what remains.
Healing has not looked the way I thought it would. It’s not peaceful or predictable. Some days I feel strong and other days, I’m just trying to hold myself together. I keep facing sensations and emotions I wish I could escape, and the hardest part has been learning how to stay with myself when everything feels unbearable.
Maybe you know these feeling too—the exhaustion of doing everything “right” and still waking up in pain, or the frustration when progress seems to vanish overnight. But the messiness doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It means your body and mind are relearning safety, step by step, even when it doesn’t feel that way.
Healing will ask you to stop performing, to rest when it feels undeserved, to meet yourself with tenderness instead of impatience. None of this is easy, but it’s how repair begins. You might not always see change happening, but it is. Even on the hardest days, you’re building a new relationship with yourself, one that honors who you were before everything changed, who you are now and who you are still becoming.
Hope rebuilds after we honor the wound. Your body, heart, life, they still know how to heal. These pages hold space for all your scars, whether from health crashes or life’s other storms. You’ve carried enough. Now let hope be the root of your healing and claim your truth: You are not broken and you are still standing.
Remember when you are trying to make a change give yourself grace, be gentle and encouraging with yourself as you would be with a toddler who is learning to walk. Those small steps you are taking are what counts. As time passes you will find ways of discovering, exploring, uncovering and healing in the pages ahead. There is nothing more fulfilling than finding your way back to yourself.
Healing is messy, so is being human. But you are not lost in the mess. You are becoming through it.
